Introduction to FRP

Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is a composite material made up of polymer that is supported with fibers for added strength.

  • The fibers can be glass, carbon, basalt or aramid. FRP being flexible and not brittle has high impact resistance and hence does not break down into pieces like Cast Iron or Ductile Iron in case of excess load.
  • It is a thermoset material. Hence, extreme hot or cold temperatures do not have any effect on it.
  • It is also resistant to water, chemical water, sewage water and sunlight.
  • It is zero scrap value. This makes it anti-theft, making it the biggest advantage of this material.
